Overview

You’re stepping into HLTAID012 for a reason — because you’re someone who shows up when it matters most.

Learning first aid for children, infants, and adults isn’t just a course… it’s a commitment to safety, courage, and care.

Every technique you practise, every scenario you run, every minute you spend learning is building the confidence to make a real difference. One day, someone will need help — and you’ll be the calm, capable person who knows exactly what to do.

This training can be challenging but it’s meaningful.
It’s the kind of skill that turns ordinary people into everyday heroes. Keep learning, keep practising, and trust that every bit of effort is preparing you to protect and support the people who depend on you, especially the little ones.

What you will learn

Through practical, hands-on training, you will gain the essential skills to provide first aid to infants and children in a variety of situations that commonly occur in education and care settings:

Signs and symptoms to recognise when someone is unconscious and not breathing

CPR (Cardiopulmonary resuscitation) on an infant, child and adult

How to competently use a defibrillator on an infant, child and adult

How to complete an incident report

First Aid treatment for anaphylaxis, asthma, choking, unconscious breathing, bleeding and shock, snake bites, spider bites, sprains and fractures, seizures and epilepsy (including febrile convulsions), poisoning and toxic substances.

All training is delivered in line with the Australian Resuscitation Council (ARC) guidelines, ensuring the best possible outcomes until professional help arrives.
