What you will learn

By the end of the face-to-face course, you will be able to:

Conduct a full primary assessment of the casualty

Conduct a secondary survey of a casualty,

 Perform CPR, safely operate an AED, and place the casualty into the recovery position,

 Apply effective techniques for the management of Anaphylaxis,

 Apply effective techniques for the management of Asthma,

 Apply effective techniques for handling fractures, dislocations, and envenomation,

 Provide psychological aftercare for rescuers and victims,

Manage a choking casualty,

Manage Non-Life-Threatening Bleeding and Shock.

 Learn to manage common injuries and illnesses,

✤ Understand the legal considerations of providing emergency life support,

Apply emergency life support principles in real-world scenarios.

Who is this course for

This full face-to-face course is designed for workers, community members, and family members who prefer full face to face facilitation who may be called upon to respond in an emergency.

No prior medical knowledge is required, only the willingness to learn and act.

Entry requirements

A key requirement is that CPR must be performed on an adult manikin placed on the floor, for a continuous period (usually at least 2 minutes uninterrupted) to demonstrate competence. Participants are required to have the physical capacity to perform basic emergency life support procedures in a face-to-face setting.

There is no on-line learning. All learning is conducted face to face.

Certification

When you complete the 22578VIC Provide Basic Emergency Life Support course, you’ll receive your certificate by email.

 Your certificate is valid for 3 years from the date of issue.

 To maintain currency, the Code of Practice recommends that your qualification should be renewed every 3 years from the date of issue. 

 The HLTAID009 component is valid for 12 months. The Code of Practice recommends that CPR refresher training should be undertaken anually to maintain currency.

Duration

 Face-to-face practical assessment is approximately 2.5 hours + Online pre-course learning.

NOTE: This is a blended delivery method that includes pre-course work that needs to be completed prior to the practical assessment.

 Face-to-face delivery (including all theory, written, and practical assessments) is approximately 6 hours.

NOTE: The face-to-face only delivery method does not include the online pre-course work, all of that work is done in-class.

Payment Terms

 Payment can be made via direct deposit after booking.

 A $30 booking fee is required to secure your position.

A separate agreement between the client and Ascent First Aid Training determines group booking payment terms.

 Certificates will only be issued once full payment has been received by Ascent First Aid Training.
